This type of literature isn't my favorite because of the themes Rosario Castellanos writes about. With that stated, I like the way she wrote this book and in the last pages I was totally submerged in the story.

Despite being a ladino — of mestizo, not indigenous descent — Castellanos shows considerable concern and understanding for the plight of indigenous peoples. Rosario Castellanos said of the collection of her letters in Cartas a Ricardo that she considered them to be her autobiography.
