NJIT Announces Appointment of New Dean for College of Architecture and Design

NewSchool Hosts Renowned Professor of Architecture Branko Kolarevic

The Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture is an international network of digital design researchers and professionals. We facilitate critical investigations into the role of computation in architecture, planning, and building science, encouraging innovation in design creativity, sustainability, and education. Acknowledging the volatile disruptions of normal routines, Distributed Proximities aims to explore the complex contours of the moment by privileging operative modalities and their re organizational logics. In the current state of forced semi-autonomy, a remarkable simulacrum has emerged: diverse, ad hoc adaptations—academia fragmented, distributed research, bottom-up fabrication—that demonstrate the resilience and ingenuity of the computational design community in the face of crisis. With this reality as a point of departure, Distributed Proximities invites contributions of recent and emerging work in computational design innovation and culture.


Dr. Branko Kolarevic appointed as dean of NJIT's College of Architecture and Design

Kolarevic received his Diploma Engineer of Architecture degree from the University of Belgrade in and his Master of Design Studies and Doctor of Design degrees from Harvard University in and , respectively. Kolarevic is an innovator, researcher and educator. He was one of the founding directors of the Laboratory for Integrative Design at the University of Calgary, where he held a Chair in Integrated Design from to He also has served in various administrative roles in Calgary, first as associate dean and then as co-director of the Computational Design Media program. Kolarevic also has held a distinguished visiting professorship at Ball State University and was a visiting professor at North Carolina State University. Kolarevic is active in research related to the use of digital technologies in design and production.
